44, I will conquer thee!

Dupus Boomers, a bar here in Pullman, has a little something it likes to call the "44 challenge."

Well Dupus, I accept.

The deal is they have 44 beers on tap and every time you drink one they punch your card. Once all the holes are punched you get a free shirt boasting your achievements to the world and proving your alcoholism.

I'm not really doing it for the shirt (although they are cool) I'm doing it because I've decided to branch out and educate my palate with new and exciting brews. I've set a goal for myself to finish all the beers at Boomer's before graduation.

Today I tried three.

First, #2: White Frog Ale.

It's brewed by a Rogue brewery near Seattle called the Issaquah Ale House. It's an award-winning beer and I could definitely tell why.

It is exquisite. It's easy to drink and light. With hints or orange peel and chamomile it's aftertaste is pleasant and even. I'm not lying, I'm pretty sure it is the best beer I've ever tasted.

Second, #26: Pyramid's Audacious.

This is an apricot beer and usually I stay away from fruity and flavored beers like they are the plague. But minding my goal I had to overcome my apprehension and gulp it down.

But once I took a drink I realized this beer was almost as good as the White Frog, almost. The bartender said this one is her favorite beer and I can tell why. It doesn't have any of the wine-cooler-ish aftertaste that many fruity beers posses.

It's light, smooth and has a sublimely even sweetness that never overpowers your taste buds with any one drastic flavor, which is usually my complaint with apricot beers.

Third, #21: Kona's Fire Rock.

This was my least favorite of the three. It's still a good beer but I've never really been into Kona's taste.

It's like most things Hawaiian, a pretty package merely gilds interior decay.

I don't mean to be too harsh but every beer I try from the brewery just seems lacking. They kind of all taste the same and that one dominant flavor isn't good enough to keep going back for more.

So that's three down, 37 to go. It's a tough task but someone's got to do it.

Wanna join? I think it might be cool to get some guest posts about Boomer's beers.
