Follower Friday: Jokes, journalists and politics

1. Jessica Druck - Jessica is a 20-something blogger from Northern Cali and her blog, "Hello, my name is Jessica" is funny, entertaining and most of all, informative.

I like her use of white space, art and her text formatting - things that when done well, are the hallmark of a good blog.

Reading her posts are like reading the other team's playbook. They give telling insights into the mind and motivations of the modern American female. Not everything is surprising, but as a guy, I have definitely developed more empathy for women because of her blog.

2. GOPBoner - Whoever moderates this Twitter account is a genius. I wish I would have thought to start a fake Twitter account for Rep. John Boehner. If you're not into politics, it was Boehner, the House minority leader, who almost single-handedly held up Democratic legislation during the last few months – inciting the wrath of many.

The day after the historical vote, which the real Boehner abhorred, the GOPBoner Twitter feed got hilariously craaaazzzzyyyy. To wit:

"Dreamt that Jesus was watching me pull the plug on my own grandma. A single tear fell from his eye. We won't stand for this, America."

3. Andrew Zahler - Zahler produces online content for Spokane's paper, The Spokesman-Review. Journalism is undergoing a sea change and guys like Zahler are on the cutting edge of that tide.

Producing online content, reformatting print content for the Web, multimedia, audio, video, SEO, blogging – you name it, Zahler and his counterparts are doing it all in this online age.

The scarcity of jobs in journalism, coupled with the relativity new and obscure body of knowledge it takes to handle the myriad responsibilities in new media, combine to make guys like Zahler marketable in ways that few other journalists are nowadays.

4. MunchyzPullman - Anyone who has lived or partied in Pullman knows the legendary Muchy'Z hot dog. Adorned with grilled onions and cream cheese, it is the ultimate Pacific Northwest drunk munchy.

And their business savvy is admirable, they put their stand right on the sidewalk every weekend and the scent of grilled onions billowing off the grill cannot be ignored by famished local inebriates trekking from one watering hole to another. Munchy'Z just started a Twitter account so I thought I'd give 'em a shout out so local people would know about their Web presence.

5. Dirt_ Nasty - Former gay porn actor, white rapper, comedian, D-list celeb ... Dirt's resume is as varied as it is strange.

He pops up from time to time on cable TV or YouTube but I'd never really paid much attention until I started following him on Twitter. Like many other non-celeb celebs, his Twitter is the best part of his career.

His Twitter bio: "I'm so L.A. I got fake tits" made me laugh. And really that's all you can ask for, y'know?
