Into the great wide open

I've been a bad blogger lately. I'm sorry.

But that's because I was kinda unhappy for while. And unlike great writers like Hemingway, Keats and Fitzgerald, nobody wants to read my depressed, alcohol-fueled scribbling.

And also I've been struggling with the blog's identity.

I graduated on Saturday and this blog is about WSU, The Daily Evergreen and Pullman Washington ... but I'm leaving WSU, The Daily Evergreen and Pullman Washington so will "Go Coug-sars" die?

Then again, the blog is more about my perceptions and experiences related to those things and less about the actual objects themselves so maybe the blog will survive the move to ... where ever it is I might be moving to.

And this fact, the fact that I really don't know what I'll be doing in four months, has me panicking too. It's not that I don't have options but is a bird in hand truly better than two in the bush?

What if the bird in hand is the beet beat in Scranton, Pennsylvania (see what I did thur?) and the two in the bush is a sweet gig learning the craft from grizzled old cop shop reporters at someplace cool like the Baltimore Sun or something?

I guess what I'm trying to say is if I had the choice of covering a PTA meeting or getting shot at on a battlefield or ghetto – I would take the hot lead any day of the week.

For me the fear of the mundane is worse than the fear of death but I – like everyone else – am not immune to the all-encompassing fear of the unknown. That's the worst fear there is.

But for now I'm focusing on putting one foot in front of the other and taking every day at a time. And I'll get back to blogging, too.
